Recreational
/Avocational
As we used to be a summer camp for many years, we
are able to offer many of the activities from that program, plus
activities unique to our school setting that fit in after school
and on weekends. Some of these include:
- Scouting- we have
our own chartered boy scout troop in which all participate.
- Horsemanship- with
horses suited to different types of riders and riding.
- Fishing- choice fishing
areas of Utah in and around our valley.
- Water Sports- swimming
and water skiing, locally and at Lake Powell.
- Wilderness experiences-
camping out in real wilderness areas.
- Animal Care- rabbits,
pigeons, goats, cows, horses and other domestic animals.
- Nature- crafts and
related activities.
- Sports- noncompetitive
programs, (soccer, softball, basketball, etc).
- Winter activities-
skiing, ice skating.
- Vocational skills-
construction, farming, ranching, feeding cows, calving, driving
tractor, gardening, etc.
Camping
Each month during Spring, Summer, and Fall, we go
camping. Monthly or bimonthly campouts include fishing excursions,
water-ski/swim outings, work project trips, curriculum expeditions,
wilderness excursions, etc. Adventures in the out of doors are organized
to provide successful experiences.
Work
Our program begins with work. We believe that physical
work is good for the body and the soul. To spend a day hauling hay,
cutting wood, cleaning barns, feeding cattle, doing constructions
work, or other projects, provides a student the opportunity to be
busy and to be tired by the end of the day. We participate in community
service projects that range from service to widowed, elderly people to community
improvement projects in the small town near the ranch. There
is little time to get into mischief. Work is great therapy. It is
easy to succeed while working. Successful working experiences give
confidence, and success in other areas usually follows. Work and
work ethics help build self esteem.
