Scheduled for Structure & Fun
Weekdays
High Top Ranch students are engaged in an active, supervised weekly program of ranch work, exercise, academic classes, extracurricular classes, quiet reading, and open recreational periods. Students are under the supervision of a counselor or teacher at all times.
Weekdays
Students begin their mornings bright and early at 7:30 am. Boys work to get ready, make their beds, and get their assigned chores done by 8:15, which may include something like sweeping, or feeding the animals. Boys then enjoy their professionally cooked breakfast at the High Top Cafe and participate in a regimen of calisthenics to keep them physically fit.
After breakfast, morning chores, and excercise students begin school for the day, and rotate through classes. After lunch, the entire group enjoys PE together, and may play sports, complete ropes type courses, participate in equine activities, or other active games which are followed by one or two more class rotations.
Dinner is served at 5:30, after which boys that are caught up on school work may go up to the cabin, go fishing, go hiking, go horseback riding, go to movies, or participate in games or activities as a group. Those that are not caught up on their school work, are tutored and helped individually to understand their schoolwork and get caught up. Once boys have completed their schoolwork, they too can enjoy free time.
Weekends
Weekends at the ranch involve group work activities such as hauling hay, cutting wood, cleaning barns, feeding cattle, performing construction work, caring for animals, or other projects. These activities are generally completed by mid-afternoon, giving students time to visit the local movie theater, enjoy pizza, swim, bowl, or play board games. During the summer months, weekends are also set aside for overnight camping trips.
Sundays are set aside as a time for church and/or relaxation. Students may attend worship services in the morning, leaving afternoons open for hiking, fishing, biking, and horseback riding. Sunday evenings are spent watching videos or playing games at the main lodge.
Living Quarters & Free Time
Living quarters for all students at the ranch are located in a central lodge. Meals are served by the professional chefs of the High Top Café.
Outside facility areas include a trout pond with a small paddle boat, a large field for games and sports, a basketball court, and a course for dirt bikes. These areas are available to students during recreational periods.
Nearby stables and a small animal barn give students the chance to raise and care for rabbits, goats, turkeys, and horses.
The ranch also offers students the use of a wood shop and craft building. Each student is instructed in woodworking and leatherworking as part of their daily schedule and many come to spend a good portion of their free time involved in these constructive activities.
